Easy to customize

You can easily adapt the user search form to match the look and feel of your site. Simply save the CGI-generated Search Page as an html document, and you can replace text boxes with select menus or radio buttons, change the colors and text, and add your own graphics

The template boxes make it possible for you to embed the search results in virtually any HTML code. Simply paste the HTML code for the way you would like the search results to look into the box provided. Then, insert $data[0] where you would like the first field to go, $data[1] for the second field, etc. A key is provided to make this task simple. There are 2 template boxes, one for the initial search results, which is repeated once for each found record, and another template box for the form view displayed when the user clicks the 'view' button.

With version 2.1 you can click on "Customize Report" and choose how you want the search results to look. Options include the page color, header HTML for text or images, column sequence (including the ability to omit columns for hidden data), sorting, and # of results per page.

Can users add records, or just search? Your choice!

The installer will ask you whether you wish to allow users to add records. To build a free web based database, choose "Yes", and an 'ADD' button will be placed on the visitor page, and the password security for adding records will be disabled.

Date Format Intelligence - year 2000 friendly

Dates may be entered in the popular mm/dd/yy format with confidence. All years less than 20 are converted to year 2000. Sorting and searching works without a hitch. Easy to change over to dd/mm/yy for European apps.

Pop-up lists, checkboxes, text boxes, and large comment boxes

You can now define a field as a pop-up list, checkbox, textbox, or comment box. It's easy to redefine fields from the 'modify fields' screen. Change the values in a selection list, or resize a textbox in seconds.

Easy to install, even for non-unix people!

If your server is a Unix machine, you do not need to know any Unix commands to install Webdata. The installer program has taken most of the work out of creating the user and administration pages, changing privileges, creating the correct paths, inserting the password, and customizing the field list.  The installer will ask you six to eight questions.  Two of them are specific to your system, (where is the cgi-bin, where is Perl), the rest are choices for you about the database, (name, password, homepage-URL, what fields do you want).

There's a windows installer too!

The winstall.pl program will open a DOS window and prompt you for the path to the cgi-bin, the database name, a password, a homepage URL, and what fields you would like.

A Worksheet takes the guesswork out of installation

A worksheet is included in the README.html file with all the questions the installer will ask you.  This gives you the time and flexibility to print it out and complete it at your leisure.  A detailed explanation of each question, and instructions for finding the answer on a Unix system is included.

You will have 30 days to evaluate Webdata for free. The database will cost $199 if you choose to register it. That is less than one tenth what you would pay a consultant to install a similar database on your site.

When you install your free download, there will be a 30 day countdown on the administration screen, along with an ID code and a link to register. Just below that will be a box to enter the registration code when you receive it.

Registration entitles you to install multiple databases on your site.
